studio m' Ferme 30.6cm Oval Plate
“Ferme” means “farmhouse” in French, and the “cour de ferme” (“farm courtyard”) mark on the bottom of each piece evokes the cheerful scene of cooking with home-grown vegetables and hosting family and friends for a lively meal. What gives the series its distinctive character is its careful attention to material and glaze pairing: it uses red earthenware clay as the body, first coated with a white slip as an underlayer, then finished with either a clear glaze (resulting in a white appearance) or a caramel-colored glaze (for a caramel look). Through multiple production steps, this creates deep tones, shadowing along the rims, and a richly expressive, slightly rustic feel. Each piece also has its own personality in the glazing details and in the variations of glaze flow along the sides, making the selection process a pleasure in itself.
